White Horse Village raises over $29K for the Alzheimer’s Association

The fifth annual White Horse Village Walk to End Alzheimer’s fundraiser on June 19 exceeded its goal, raising $29,010.

The event began in 2020 when the pandemic forced the cancellation of the greater Philadelphia Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

In the face of this challenge, the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter turned to White Horse Village, and the community responded by raising $18,001 at its first event, and not it has a five-year total of $140,698.

Donations to this year’s Walk can be made at https://bit.ly/alzwalk24 until Dec. 31.

Resident- and team-member event leaders worked hard to unite the entire community for the fun and accessible Walk events.

“We create a range of activities to engage participants beyond the half-mile and mile walk on the event day, including indoor swimming and exercise challenges, raffle baskets, rubber duck derby, hat decorating contest and pinwheel and bake sales,” shares resident co-chair Duane Thurman. “We were delighted to have KYW Newsradio traffic reporter Malcolm Poindexter III back at this year’s event to create a motivating playlist with toes tapping and hands clapping.”

White Horse Village has received annual recognition from the Delaware Valley chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association for its outstanding fundraising efforts. In May, Megan DiPanni, vice president of development, presented the 2023 Top Continuing Care Retirement Community Award to White Horse Village for raising $37,380 in the Philadelphia region.

White Horse Village’s Four Seasons Memory Care is a specialized neighborhood that cares for individuals with cognitive changes.

Life enrichment and nursing teams maximize independence and offer person-centered care in a therapeutic setting. The Pathways to Engagement program uses a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to support and engage residents and their loved ones in meaningful, goal-directed activities.

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

Since 1989, the Alzheimer’s Association mobilized millions of Americans in the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk; now the Alzheimer’s Association is continuing to lead the way with the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
