NEET exam and UGC-NET 2024 LIVE news updates:Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on June 20 hit out against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that he has failed to address the issue of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) paper leaks in India. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav today slammed the NDA government over cancellation of the UGC-NET exam, saying the paper mafia is "rigging exams" under the BJP rule. Yadav stated if the police recruitment exam is leaked, it will have a bearing on law and order while if there is a fraud in the NEET exam, honest people will not become doctors. Likewise the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam will have a bearing on the education system.

After a student claimed in his confessional note that he had access to a copy of the NEET-UG exam paper beforehand, the Bihar Police's Economic Offenses Unit said it will soon investigate the case, and submit a report on it to the education Ministry soon.
The National Testing Agency (NTA)on Thursday released the admit cards for candidates who are now appearing for retest of the NEET UG 2024 on its official website– neet.ntaonline.in. Only those candidates who had received grace marks by NTA due to loss of exam time can take the retest. Also, the Supreme Court today sought responses from the Centre, the NTA and others on petitions seeking the cancelation of NEET-UG 2024, and a court-monitored probe into the alleged irregularities in the medical entrance exam. The SC also stayed proceedings in pleas filed in Rajasthan, Calcutta and Bombay High Courts on the alleged paper leak in the NEET-UG 2024 examination.

The court has dismissed a plea by three medical aspirants seeking permission to appear for NEET UG, 2024 re-test on June 23 on the ground of loss of time, holding there was no merit or substance in their demand.

A delegation of NEET aspirants met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to hold discussions on the problems affecting them.

“It’s happening because our institutions have been compromised. Our vice-chancellors are appointed not based on merit, but because they belong to a specific organisation,” said Gandhi, alleging that the BJP has “penetrated” the country’s education system and destroyed it," Rahul Gandhi said today.

"Amid a massive row on the medical entrance exam NEET over alleged irregularities, with the issue now before the Supreme Court, the Centre on June 19 ordered the cancellation of the UGC-NET following inputs that the exam's integrity may have been compromised and handed over the matter to the CBI for an investigation," West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu posted on X.

“Centre have no credibility in these matters. If they give clean chit, it means nothing, their credibility is zero. Everybody knows that the epicenters are Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh,” Rahul Gandhi said on the NEET-UG case.

“What Narendra Modi did to the economy with demonetisation has now been done to the education system. The reason this is happening and the reason you’re suffering is because an independent, objective education system has been demolished... It is important that those who are guilty here are held accountable and punished,” Rahul Gandhi said.

A fresh date for the UGCC-NET exam will be announced soon, a ministry of education official said today. Govind Jaiswal, joint secretary, Ministry of education, said the ministry won't hesitate in taking action against those guilty.

"Grace marks has been addressed. As for alleged leak, Bihar EOU is investigating. We are relying on their input. They sought detailed input from NTA. Once we receive detailed input from Bihar police we will take action based on that." the joint secretary in the education ministry stated.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha today alleged that Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav's aide was linked to the alleged paper leaks and the malpractices of the NEET-UG 2024 row. Sinha claimed that Yadav's aide Preetam Kumar called an employee of the Bihar Road Construction Department (RCD) to book a room for Sikandar Prasad Yadavendu, an engineer who earlier revealed an alleged involvement of a 'Mantri Ji' in the entrance exam row.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra hit out at the government after the Education Ministry ordered the cancellation of UGC-NET and asked for accountability to be fixed. In a post in Hindi on X, Congress chief Kharge said, "Narendra Modi ji, you discuss exams a lot, but when will you hold 'NEET pareeksha pe charcha'. Cancellation of UGC-NET exam is a victory of the passion of lakhs of students," he said
